“Who am I? That the lord of all the earth, will care to know my name? Would care to feel my hurt. Who am I?” The lyrics to a popular song by Casting Crowns resonate so truly in my soul.
Who am I? There is the version that everyone on the outside sees. There is the version inside that no one sees. And there are a multitude of variations that different friends and family members see. Add them all together and what do you get? Me, with all of my onion-y layers. And guess what? All of this is totally normal. It is part of the human experience here on earth.
What I do know is that I am so grateful to be a student here at LSSC. I had a different young adulthood than many of my fellow students, but I am here now, and that is what matters. And you, whether your parents pushed you into it, or you came back later to upskill, being here now is what matters.
So, what makes us who we are? Is it our school? Our Job? Our personality? What about our family? Our friends? Our love interest? I challenge you today to think about who you are. Is who you are in line with who you want to be? Are you moving forward on the path to be who, and where, you want to be?
Let’s take the experience of today home, and process and learn from it. We have a fresh opportunity every day, because every day is a new day. It was Gandhi who said, “Live each day as if it were your last; learn as if you will live forever.” The wisdom is to enjoy and appreciate each day, and never stop learning.
