“One of The Days” is a movie you go to see with your girlfriends. It’s funny and chaotic, and rated R for partial nudity, use of drugs, and violence. I went to see it with a friend, and even though we missed the first few minutes we were able to catch up fast.
The concept is that Alyssa’s boyfriend stole her and Dreux’s rent money, and their landlord is going to evict them. Alyssa is played by SZA, and this is her movie debut. This movie was a perfect fit for SZA because she plays an artist who feels the vibe of her inspirations.
While Dreux, played by Keke Palmer, is trying to get a promotion to work as a manager for a diner she works at.
These women are opposites but that is what makes them best friends. As they go through crazy antics to get back their rent money, they find themselves in risky situations. For example, giving blood and getting caught up with a gang leader, then owing even more money. Their landlord preemptively removed all their furniture from their apartment even though it wasn’t the end of the day. Their new neighbor sees Alyssa’s painting and wants to buy one of her pieces; which gives the main characters the idea to set up a pop-up to invite the new neighbor’s friends to buy her work so they can make the money to pay everyone off.
Given this movie is a comedy, everything resolves in the end, but not in the way you expect. It was a very fun feel-good movie to see your girl and even guy friends. This movie is perfect to watch as a college student, but don’t watch with your parents; they would not be amused.
