Dr. Heather Bigard, named Lake-Sumter State College’s first female president in 2022, has stepped away, leaving the college without an official president for the time being.
A spokesman for Lake-Sumter State College has officially stated that President Bigard is on a “paid leave of absence” as of last week. It is still unclear whether Bigard has taken leave on her own recognizance or if she has been removed, but the Board of Trustees has planned a “special meeting” for Friday, the 30th of August, to discuss “action relating to the current and future direction of the College.”
A search of the Florida Has A Right to Know database on Tuesday, August 13th, revealed that President Bigard (and Bigard family members employed at the college) had no available salary information. It is unclear if her salary information was ever available since her appointment as president, but her salary information is publicly available in her roles at the school prior to her appointment as president. As of the publishing of this article, President Bigard’s title and office location have also been removed from the school’s email directory.
This is an ongoing story, and new information will be published as it becomes available.
